About

Isla Books is a curated reading guide to the literature of the Caribbean — a place to find the novels, histories, poetry, and ideas that the region has given the world, and to read them with context rather than at random.

What we do

We recommend books, one at a time, with a short note on why each one earns its place. We’re not a store and we don’t sell anything here — every recommendation is an editorial judgment made by a human reader, chosen because we believe it belongs on your shelf.

How it’s organized

You can read the Caribbean two ways. By island — Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, and every nation in between — to go deep on a single place and its writers. Or by theme — migration and diaspora, colonial history and resistance, spirituality, music, language and creole, and more — to follow an idea as it moves across the whole region. Most books sit at the crossing of the two.

Our promise

Every book here is one we genuinely value. When we link to a retailer we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you — but that never influences what we choose or what we say about it. You can read more on our Affiliate Disclosure page.

Thank you for reading the Caribbean with us.
